Julia Rowe
Born and raised in Bristol, Julia has a background in the arts, working extensively in interior design and theatre photography, and a marionette company.
Her interest in the use of colour and light led her to glass and after years of working with stained glass, Julia discovered the special qualities of kiln formed fused glass. She studied at the Creative Glass Guild and Bristol School of Art.
Acquiring her own kiln has allowed Julia to experiment with unusual applications of fused glass to create wall hangings and mirrors. In the layers of glass she encapsulates metals, foils, enamels and ground glass and many of the works are inspired by Indian and Moroccan architecture. Julia also makes freestanding pieces and dishes with both abstract and figurative designs. Future plans are to explore the use of fused glass in lighting and in outdoor settings.
Julia teaches ‘Creative Experience Days’ in creative fused glass at her studio in Westbury Park.
‘Julia Rowe Designs’ was launched June 2005 with an Open Studio Exhibition. Following this she was invited to exhibit at Bristol Blue Glass in September 2005.
Each November Julia’s studio is part of the North Bristol Artists Trail. She holds ‘Open Studio’ of her work from time to time, keep a eye on her 'Where to view' page.
